Three ways to cool an East Wenatchee home.

Which one fits depends on what heats your house now, whether you have ductwork, and how many rooms need cooling.

A central air conditioner with your furnace

The outdoor AC unit pairs with the furnace you already have, gas or electric, and shares its blower and ducts. It's the most direct swap when an old AC fails and the furnace still has years left.

A heat pump that cools and heats

It cools exactly like an AC, then runs in reverse to heat through most of the winter. Paired with a gas furnace it becomes a dual fuel system. With an air handler it can replace an electric furnace.

$15,331–$26,702 ducted, installed

Ductless mini-splits

For homes without ducts, an addition, or a bonus room upstairs that never cools down. Each indoor head runs on its own, and the system heats in winter too.

  • Duct condition, and whether the electrical panel needs work
  • The efficiency tier and brand you pick

What comes with the install

  • A free in-home estimate and a written quote
  • The manufacturer's parts warranty (Carrier's runs up to 10 years)
  • Alpine's own 1-year parts and labor warranty

The big decision

Straight AC or a heat pump, side by side.

Question Central AC Heat pump
July and August Cools and pulls humidity out Cools and pulls humidity out the same way
December Sits idle; the furnace does all the heating Heats most days; a furnace or backup heat covers the coldest stretches
Natural gas home Keeps your gas furnace as the only heat Becomes dual fuel, with the gas furnace as backup
Electric furnace home Leaves electric resistance heat in place Takes over most of the heating from the electric furnace
Douglas PUD rebate None at this time None at this time

Natural gas in East Wenatchee is supplied by Cascade Natural Gas.

How it works

From the first visit to a cool house.

  1. A free visit at your house. We look at the furnace, ducts, electrical panel and where the outdoor unit will sit, and ask which rooms run hot.
  2. Options in writing. You get prices for the choices that fit, usually a central AC and a heat pump, so you can compare them.
  3. Scheduling. Once you pick one, the office sets an install date and tells you how long the crew expects to be there.
  4. Install day. The crew removes the old equipment, sets the new system and tests it in cooling mode.
  5. A walkthrough. We show you the thermostat and the filter, and explain the warranty paperwork.

Have an older AC that still runs on R-22? We no longer use R-22, and it is no longer produced, so a leak on one of those systems is usually the moment to replace it. Every system we install uses a current refrigerant.

East Wenatchee AC installation questions

Before you replace your air conditioner.

How much does a new air conditioner cost in East Wenatchee?

A central AC paired with your existing furnace is priced at a free in-home estimate, because it depends on the furnace, ducts and wiring. A ducted heat pump that cools and heats runs $15,331 to $26,702 installed, and ductless systems run $7,000 to $8,700 for one zone or $11,000 to $21,500 for several.

Does Douglas PUD offer a rebate on a new AC or heat pump?

Not at this time. Douglas PUD, which serves East Wenatchee, Rock Island and Orondo, has no rebates right now. Financing through Salal Credit Union is available on approved credit.

Can you add central air to my gas furnace?

Usually, yes. A central AC shares the furnace's blower and ductwork. At the estimate we check that the furnace and ducts can handle it and price it for you, along with a heat pump option so you can compare.

Should I get a heat pump instead of an AC?

If you heat with an electric furnace, a heat pump usually makes the most sense, because it takes over most of the heating as well as the cooling. With a gas furnace either works; a heat pump turns it into a dual fuel system. We'll price both so you can decide.

What warranty comes with a new system?

You get the manufacturer's parts warranty, up to 10 years on Carrier equipment, plus Alpine's own 1-year parts and labor warranty.

When is the best time to replace an air conditioner?

Fall through early spring, before the first hot week. Scheduling is easier then, and you aren't waiting on a new system in the middle of a heat wave.
