If you smell gas or a CO alarm goes off
Get everyone out of the house without flipping switches, then call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Don't go back in until they say it's safe. Once the gas side is cleared, call us to find and fix the furnace problem.
Safe checks before you call for no heat.
These take a few minutes and sometimes save a visit. Leave anything inside the furnace cabinet to a technician.
- The thermostat is set to Heat and a few degrees above the room temperature.
- Thermostat batteries are fresh, if it uses them.
- The furnace power switch, which looks like a light switch near the unit, is on.
- The furnace breaker hasn't tripped. Reset it once; if it trips again, leave it off and call.
- The filter isn't clogged. A blocked filter can make the furnace overheat and shut down.
- Outside intake and exhaust pipes aren't buried in snow.

Choosing a new furnace
Single-stage, two-stage or modulating?
The difference is how the burner runs. AFUE tells you how much of the gas becomes heat in your home: higher is more efficient. A bigger furnace isn't better; one sized to the house runs longer, steadier cycles.

How much is a furnace repair visit?
You pay a dispatch fee based on your town, $119 in Wenatchee, East Wenatchee and Cashmere and $149 to $279 farther out, plus a diagnostic fee of $72 to $130. The technician quotes the repair price before starting. Labor is $185 an hour.
Do you fix furnaces after hours?
Yes. We offer after-hours emergency service across our service area. After 5 p.m., on weekends and on holidays the dispatch fee is $330 plus the diagnostic fee.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
Repair usually makes sense for a single failed part on a furnace in good shape. Replacement is worth pricing when the repair is a big share of a new furnace, breakdowns keep repeating or there's a safety issue such as a cracked heat exchanger. We can give you both numbers.
What size furnace do I need?
It depends on the house: square footage, insulation, windows, ductwork and how exposed it is to wind. We size the new furnace from those details rather than copying the old one, because an oversized furnace short-cycles and heats unevenly.
What is AFUE?
AFUE is the share of the gas a furnace turns into heat for your home over a season. A 95% AFUE furnace turns 95 cents of every gas dollar into heat. Cascade Natural Gas furnace rebates in 2026 require 95% AFUE or higher.
Can I add a heat pump to my gas furnace?
Yes. A dual fuel system adds a heat pump that heats most of the year and cools in summer, while the gas furnace takes the coldest nights. Installed dual fuel systems run $15,706 to $26,748.
How often should a gas furnace be serviced?
Once a year, ideally in the fall before heating season. A furnace tune-up is $179, and the AA Comfort Club covers two visits a year for $300 per system.
