Comfort without ductwork

Heat and cool the rooms you actually use.

A ductless mini-split is a heat pump with an outdoor unit and one or more slim indoor units, connected by a small refrigerant line. There are no ducts to build, and each indoor unit has its own temperature control.

What you get

  • Heating and cooling. One system for winter heat and summer AC.
  • Room-by-room control. Set each zone to its own temperature.
  • Potential savings. Especially when it replaces electric baseboard heat.
  • Less construction. A small wall opening instead of new ductwork.

Where ductless usually makes sense

  • Electric baseboards or wall heaters. Add air conditioning and more efficient heat without installing ducts. This is the setup Chelan PUD's ductless rebate is built around.
  • A room that never feels right. Bonus rooms, additions and upstairs bedrooms that run hotter or colder than the rest of the house.
  • Shops, garages and ADUs. Spaces your central system doesn't reach, or where extending ducts isn't practical.
  • Whole home with good ducts? A ducted heat pump may be the better fit. Compare ducted heat pumps →

No guessing games

What does a ductless mini-split cost in Wenatchee?

Price depends mostly on how many indoor units you need, the equipment tier and the electrical work. These are our installed prices before rebates, based on our completed ductless installs from 2024 to 2026.

$7,000–$8,700 Single-zone, one indoor unit (e.g. Carrier 37MURA)
$11,000–$13,500 2 zones
$13,700–$16,500 3 zones
$17,800–$21,500 4 or more zones
$1,600 Potential Chelan PUD incentive, site-built home

Keep in mind: Number of zones, lineset length, wall construction, electrical panel capacity and site conditions can change your price. Capacity, indoor unit style and mounting location move a single-zone price; room count, lineset routing and controls move a multi-zone price. Rebates are not included in these ranges.

Prices as of October 2026, before rebates and any applicable tax. Your final price depends on your home. For comparison, a ducted heat pump with a new air handler runs $15,331–$26,702 across our Good, Better and Best tiers. Details →

Built for North Central Washington

Will a mini-split keep up in January?

A cold-climate rated mini-split, sized for heating rather than just cooling, can be an effective heat source here. Model choice, head placement and a backup-heat plan for the coldest nights all matter.

  • Sized for winter. We size for your heating load, not just summer cooling.
  • Head placement. Indoor units go where air can reach the space you live in.
  • Backup heat. Many homes keep existing baseboards for the coldest days.
  • Outdoor unit protection. Raised mounting, drainage and snow clearance matter in mountain and lake communities.

Carrier 9,000 BTU single-zone ductless heat pump: one outdoor unit and one indoor wall unit

This Wenatchee home got heating and cooling for one space without any new ductwork. Our team set the outdoor unit on a raised stand over a concrete pad, ran the refrigerant lines up the wall inside a protective cover, and mounted the indoor unit, then returned the next morning to finish up. Single-zone systems like this are a common fit for additions, bonus rooms and homes heated by baseboards.

Frequently asked questions

Answers before you go ductless.

Do ductless mini-splits work during Wenatchee winters?

Yes. A cold-climate rated mini-split that is sized for your heating load can heat a home through our winters. Output drops as temperatures fall, so many homes keep their existing baseboard or wall heaters as backup for the coldest nights.

How many indoor units will I need?

It depends on your floor plan. One indoor unit can handle an open area or a single room, but closed-off bedrooms usually need their own unit. We recommend the number of zones when we price your project.

How much does a ductless mini-split cost?

Based on our completed installs from 2024 to 2026, a single-zone system runs about $7,000 to $8,700 installed, 2 zones about $11,000 to $13,500, 3 zones about $13,700 to $16,500 and 4 or more about $17,800 to $21,500, before rebates. The number of indoor units, the equipment tier and the electrical work your home needs move the price. Request an estimate or call (509) 436-1178 for a price on your home. Eligible Chelan PUD customers replacing electric baseboard heat in a site-built home may qualify for a $1,600 rebate.

Which Chelan PUD rebate could I qualify for?

Chelan PUD lists $1,600 for replacing electric resistance heat with a qualifying ductless heat pump in a site-built single-family home, $2,000 in a manufactured home and $1,000 in multifamily buildings with 5 or more units. Eligibility depends on your utility account, existing heating system, equipment and approval. Chelan PUD decides final eligibility and payment.

Do I need electrical work for a mini-split?

Usually. The outdoor unit needs its own circuit, and some older panels need an upgrade to handle it. Alpine Aire also does electrical work, so the circuit can be handled as part of the same project.

Can I keep my baseboard heaters?

Often, yes. Many homeowners leave baseboards in place as backup heat. Ask us how your existing heat affects rebate eligibility before you decide.

How do I maintain a ductless system?

Rinse or vacuum the indoor unit filters regularly and keep snow and debris clear of the outdoor unit. A professional cleaning and check helps the system run efficiently. Our AA Comfort Club covers a spring and a fall visit for $300 plus tax a year per system, or $25 a month. Systems with more than two indoor heads add $30 per head each year.
