Your electric utility decides
Heat pump rebates depend on who sends your power bill.
Two neighbors on opposite sides of the Columbia can get very different answers. Here is where each utility stands as of October 2026.

Gas-heated homes that switch to all-electric heat don't qualify for Chelan PUD's conversion incentive, and dual fuel systems usually don't either. Your account and meter decide eligibility, not your mailing address.

Repair or replace?
Signs it may be time for a new heat pump.
One of these on its own usually means a repair. Several together are worth a replacement quote, and we'll give you both numbers.
- It runs on R-22 refrigerant. We no longer use R-22, and R-22 is no longer produced, so leaks get harder to fix.
- It has failed or locked out more than once this season.
- Some rooms never reach the thermostat setting, even with the system running constantly.
- The backup electric heat runs most of the winter, which shows up on the power bill.
- The outdoor unit has gotten noticeably louder or rattles on start-up.
- The repair estimate is a big share of what a new system would cost.
Our technicians quote the estimated price before any repair work begins. New Carrier heat pumps carry Carrier's 10-year parts warranty (5 years if the house is sold, labor not included), and Alpine Aire adds its own 1-year parts and labor warranty.
Three ways to heat with a heat pump
Which kind of heat pump fits your home?
Ducted heat pump
An outdoor heat pump paired with an indoor air handler that uses your existing ducts. It heats and cools the whole house from one thermostat.
Best for: homes with ducts and an electric furnace or an aging heat pump
Ductless mini-split
An outdoor unit feeds one or more wall heads through a small line set. Each head has its own temperature setting.
Best for: baseboard homes, additions, shops and cabins

Cold snaps and snow
Do heat pumps work in our winters?
Yes, when the system is sized for the house and set up for the coldest week, not the average one. Up the Wenatchee River valley and around Lake Chelan, snow load matters as much as the temperature.
Are heat pumps good enough for Wenatchee winters?- Cold-climate models keep heating as temperatures drop, with electric backup heat or a gas furnace for the coldest nights.
- Outdoor units go on raised stands where snow piles up, so the coil can shed ice and drain.
- Sizing comes from the house itself, so the system isn't too small for January or too big for October.

How much does a heat pump cost in Wenatchee?
A ducted heat pump with a new air handler runs $15,331 to $26,702 installed, and a dual fuel system with a gas furnace runs $15,706 to $26,748, before any utility incentive. Our completed single-zone ductless installs have typically cost about $7,000 to $8,700.
What does a heat pump repair visit cost?
A repair visit is a dispatch fee based on your town, $119 in Wenatchee, East Wenatchee and Cashmere and up to $279 for the farthest areas, plus a diagnostic fee of $72 to $130. The technician quotes the estimated repair price before starting, and neither fee is credited toward the repair.
Is there a heat pump rebate where I live?
It depends on your electric utility. Chelan PUD lists a potential $3,300 incentive for a first-time ducted conversion from an electric furnace and $1,600 to $2,000 for ductless conversions. Douglas PUD, which serves East Wenatchee, has no rebates at this time. Grant PUD rebates cover conversions from a different heating system only.
Should I replace my gas furnace with a heat pump or go dual fuel?
Dual fuel keeps your gas furnace for the coldest nights and lets a heat pump handle the rest of the year, including cooling. Going all-electric from gas usually doesn't qualify for Chelan PUD's conversion incentive, so we price both options for you.
Do heat pumps work in Leavenworth and around Lake Chelan?
Yes. We install cold-climate heat pumps with backup heat and set outdoor units on raised stands where snow builds up. See our Leavenworth and Chelan pages for local jobs and prices.
How often should a heat pump be serviced?
Plan on a spring visit and a fall visit, since a heat pump works in both seasons. The AA Comfort Club covers both for $300 per system per year or $25 a month, and a single maintenance visit is $179.
Do you offer after-hours heat pump repair?
Yes, we offer after-hours emergency service across our service area. After 5 p.m., on weekends and on holidays the dispatch fee is $330 plus the diagnostic fee.
What warranty comes with a new heat pump?
Carrier's manufacturer warranty covers parts for 10 years, or 5 years if the house is sold, and doesn't include labor. Alpine Aire adds a 1-year parts and labor warranty on our installation.
