Two kinds of furnace on this side of the river

Which one is giving you trouble?

Homes here are split between gas heat and electric heat, and each fails in its own ways.

Natural gas furnace

Fed by Cascade Natural Gas.

  • Clicks and tries to light, then gives up
  • Burner lights for a moment and shuts off
  • Blower runs but the air never gets hot
  • Error light blinking on the control board

We check: igniter, flame sensor, pressure switch, venting, gas valve and control board.

Electric furnace

Powered by Douglas PUD.

  • Fan blows, but the air is barely warm
  • Heat comes on in stages, then fades
  • A breaker in the panel keeps tripping
  • Burning-dust smell long after start-up

We check: heating elements, sequencers, limit switches, breakers, wiring and blower.

Five minutes, no tools

Try these, in this order.

Still cold after the last step? Leave the cabinet closed and book a technician.

  1. Look at the thermostat screen. It should read Heat with the setpoint above the room temperature. A blank screen usually means dead batteries.
  2. Visit the electrical panel. An electric furnace may have two or three breakers. Any that sit in the middle position count as tripped.
  3. Find the service switch. It looks like a light switch on or near the furnace, and it's easy to bump off.
  4. Pull the air filter. If you can't see light through it, swap in a clean one.
  5. Clear the outside pipes. On high-efficiency gas furnaces, snow or frost over the plastic vent pipes will stop the burner.

Questions from East Wenatchee homeowners

East Wenatchee furnace repair FAQ.

Does Alpine Aire fix furnaces in East Wenatchee?

Yes. Our technicians cross the river to repair natural gas furnaces, electric furnaces and furnaces that back up a heat pump. Book at alpineaire.net/book or phone (509) 436-1178.

Can I get help after hours in East Wenatchee?

Yes. Phone (509) 436-1178 after hours, and our dispatch team will take your details and arrange for a technician to call you back. After 5 pm, and on weekends and holidays, the dispatch fee is $330, plus the diagnostic fee.

Who supplies natural gas in East Wenatchee?

Cascade Natural Gas. If you ever smell gas, leave the house first, then call 911 or Cascade from outside.

Why does my electric furnace blow lukewarm air?

An electric furnace heats in stages. When one heating element, sequencer or breaker fails, the fan keeps running but only part of the heat comes on. Reset any tripped furnace breakers once. If it trips again, leave it off and book a repair.

Will Douglas PUD help pay for a new furnace?

Not at this time. Douglas PUD has no residential furnace or heat pump rebate, and Chelan PUD programs don't cover East Wenatchee.

When does replacing make more sense than repairing?

When the furnace is roughly 15 years old or more, breaks down most winters, or the repair quote approaches the cost of a new system. Our technician will lay out both options so you can choose.
