Pick the right kind of cooling

Three ways to cool a house near Lake Chelan.

The best choice depends on what heats the home now, whether it has ducts, and how much of the year someone lives there.

Central AC with your furnace

An outdoor condenser and an indoor coil that share the furnace's blower and ductwork. A straightforward fit when the furnace still has years left in it.

Priced at a free in-home estimate

A heat pump that cools and heats

Looks like an air conditioner outside, but runs in reverse all winter. One outdoor unit replaces both the AC and most of your heating.

$15,331–$26,702 ducted, installed

Heat pumps in Chelan and Manson →

Ductless mini-split

Wall-mounted indoor heads piped to a small outdoor unit. Good for cabins, additions, bonus rooms and older lake places with no ducts.

$7,000–$8,700 one zone · $11,000–$21,500 multi-zone

Installed prices

What new cooling costs in Chelan.

We list a range only where we have an approved installed price. A straight air conditioner depends too much on the furnace, the ducts and the coil to price without seeing the house, so we quote it on site, free.

System Installed price Good to know
Central air conditioner
paired with an existing furnace
Free in-home estimate No utility rebate for AC-only systems
Ducted heat pump
with a new air handler
$15,331–$26,702 Cools and heats; Chelan PUD may help when it replaces an electric furnace
Dual fuel
heat pump + gas furnace
$15,706–$26,748 Heat pump cools; furnace takes the coldest nights
Ductless, one zone $7,000–$8,700 One room or open area
Ductless, multi-zone $11,000–$21,500 Several rooms from one outdoor unit

Is your current unit an older R-22 system?

We no longer use R-22. If an older lake-house air conditioner runs on it, replacing the outdoor unit and coil is usually the practical path, and we'll show you the options side by side at the estimate. Want a number on a heat pump today? Get My Instant Price.

Second homes and rentals

Cooling a house you're not always in.

Chelan summers are hot and dry, and plenty of homes around the lake sit closed up for weeks or months at a time. That changes what a good install looks like.

More about our work in Chelan →

  • A Wi-Fi thermostat so you can start cooling before you drive up
  • Equipment sized for the hottest weeks, not just an average day
  • A condensate drain and safety switch that won't flood a ceiling while no one's home
  • Outdoor unit placed for airflow, away from dryer vents and deck traffic
  • A caretaker or property manager can meet our crew if you can't
  • Spring start-up through the AA Comfort Club, so problems turn up before guests arrive

From estimate to first cool night

How a Chelan cooling install works.

  1. Free estimate at the house. A comfort advisor looks at the furnace, ducts, electrical panel and where an outdoor unit can sit, then prices the options in writing.
  2. You choose. Central AC, a heat pump or ductless, from Carrier, Lennox, Bosch, Mitsubishi or another brand. Financing through Salal Credit Union is available on approved credit.
  3. Paperwork, if it applies. For a qualifying heat pump or ductless conversion we send Chelan PUD the pre-approval before ordering equipment.
  4. Install day. Our crew sets the equipment, runs the lines, starts the system and checks airflow and temperatures before leaving.
  5. Covered after. You get the manufacturer's parts warranty (Carrier's runs up to 10 years) plus our own 1 year on parts and labor.

Potential utility incentives

Where Chelan PUD money does and doesn't apply.

Chelan and Manson homes buy power from Chelan PUD. Its program rewards switching off electric resistance heat, not adding air conditioning.

Chelan PUD, potential incentive

$3,300

Electric furnace to a ducted heat pump

For a first-time conversion. Chelan PUD must approve it before equipment is bought, and we file that pre-approval for you.

This install was in East Wenatchee, not Chelan: we don't have a Chelan or Manson AC install with photos to show yet. In April 2026 our crew replaced the home's old air conditioner with a new Carrier unit. We do the same work in Chelan, Manson and Chelan Falls.

Chelan cooling questions

New air conditioning in Chelan: common questions.

How much does a new air conditioner cost in Chelan?

A central air conditioner added to an existing furnace is priced at a free in-home estimate, because the furnace, coil and ducts all affect the job. For comparison, a ducted heat pump that both cools and heats runs $15,331 to $26,702 installed, and ductless runs $7,000 to $8,700 for one zone or $11,000 to $21,500 for several.

Should I get central AC or a heat pump at the lake?

If the furnace is in good shape and you mainly want summer cooling, central AC is the simpler add. If you heat with an electric furnace, a heat pump can replace it, cool the house and possibly qualify for a $3,300 Chelan PUD incentive. We price both at the estimate so you can compare.

Does Chelan PUD give a rebate for air conditioning?

Not for an AC-only system. Chelan PUD incentives are for first-time heat pump conversions: a potential $3,300 for a ducted heat pump replacing an electric furnace, and $1,600 or $2,000 for ductless depending on the home. Rebates are provided and approved only by Chelan PUD. Amounts and eligibility are subject to change. Ask us about standard heat pump rebates.

Can you install while I'm away from my Chelan house?

Yes. A caretaker, neighbor or property manager can let our crew in, and we'll call you with what we found and when it's running. A Wi-Fi thermostat lets you check on the house and start cooling before you arrive.

Do you install in Manson and Chelan Falls too?

Yes. We install air conditioning, heat pumps and ductless systems in Chelan, Manson, Chelan Falls, South Chelan and the rest of the lake area. The estimate is free in all of them.

What warranty comes with a new system?

The manufacturer's parts warranty, which runs up to 10 years on Carrier equipment, plus Alpine Aire's own 1 year warranty on parts and labor.
