Know what you're calling about

What usually goes wrong, by type of furnace.

Homes around Quincy heat several different ways. Telling us which one you have helps the technician bring the right parts.

What heats the house Common causes of no heat What you might notice
An electric furnace A failed heating element, sequencer or limit switch, or a tripped breaker The fan runs but the air stays cool, or only some heat comes through
A gas or propane furnace A dirty flame sensor, a failed igniter, a pressure switch or an empty propane tank The furnace tries to start, then shuts down after a few seconds
A heat pump with an air handler Backup heat strips, a defrost problem or a control board fault Lukewarm air on the coldest nights, or the outdoor unit iced over
Any of them A clogged filter, a thermostat setting or dead thermostat batteries Short cycling, or nothing happens when you turn the heat up

Five minutes that can save a visit

Quick checks before you call.

  • The thermostat. Make sure it's set to Heat, set above room temperature, and has fresh batteries if it uses them.
  • The breaker. Electric furnaces and air handlers have their own breakers. Reset a tripped one once; if it trips again, leave it off and call.
  • The filter. A filter packed with dust can make a furnace overheat and shut itself off.
  • The propane tank. On propane, check the gauge. A tank that ran low may need a relight after it's filled.
  • The furnace switch. There's usually a light-style switch on or near the furnace. Make sure nobody turned it off.

Smell gas? Leave first.

Get everyone out of the house, then call your gas or propane supplier, or 911, from outside. Don't flip switches or try to relight anything.

Quincy furnace repair questions

What Quincy homeowners ask us.

How much is a furnace repair visit in Quincy?

The dispatch fee is $149 in Quincy and Crescent Bar and $279 in Trinidad and George, plus a diagnostic fee of $72, $100 or $130 depending on time. The repair and parts are priced separately, and you approve that price before work starts.

Do you come to Quincy after hours?

Yes. Our after-hours emergency service covers Quincy and the nearby towns. After 5 p.m., on weekends and on holidays the dispatch fee is $330, plus the diagnostic fee.

Do you repair electric furnaces?

Yes. We repair electric furnaces as well as gas and propane furnaces, and the air handlers and backup heat strips that go with heat pumps.

My furnace runs but blows cool air. What's wrong?

On an electric furnace it's often a failed heating element or sequencer. On gas or propane it can be an ignition or flame sensor problem. With a heat pump, the backup heat may not be coming on. A technician can tell which with a diagnostic visit.

Should I repair or replace an old furnace?

If the furnace is near the end of its life or needs repairs every winter, replacing it may cost less over time. The technician will tell you what they see, and we give free estimates on new systems.

Which brands do you work on?

We install Carrier, Lennox, Bosch, Mitsubishi and other leading brands, and we're a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. Tell us your furnace's brand when you call so the technician comes prepared.
