Furnace Repair in Leavenworth, WA

Drifted-over vent pipes, a propane tank gone low, a cabin that went cold with nobody home. Furnaces up here quit for mountain reasons. Our technicians come up Highway 2 from the Wenatchee shop, track down the cause and give you the repair price before any work begins.

Mountain-town winters

Snow and cold cause a lot of the no-heat calls we take up here.

Leavenworth sits higher than Wenatchee, gets more snow, and January nights average close to 20°F. A few minutes of checking can sometimes bring the heat back before a technician arrives.

Smell gas or propane, or hear a carbon monoxide alarm? Leave first.

Get everyone out without touching light switches or the thermostat. From outside, call 911 and your gas or propane supplier. Once they say the house is safe, call us to find out why it happened.

  • Clear the white plastic pipes. High-efficiency furnaces breathe through pipes in an outside wall or the roof. Drifts or ice over them shut the burner off. Brush them clear by hand.
  • Read the propane gauge. If the tank reads low, phone your propane supplier before you phone us.
  • Look at the panel after a storm. An outage can trip the furnace breaker or leave the thermostat screen blank.
  • Flip the service switch on. It looks like a light switch on or beside the furnace and gets bumped off easily.
  • Change a clogged filter. A filter packed with dust can make the furnace overheat and shut itself down.
  • Still cold? Leave the furnace panels on and book a visit.

Propane, natural gas or electric

What our technician tests depends on what your furnace burns.

Upper valley homes run on a mix of fuels, often within the same street. Tell us which one you have when you book.

Furnace trouble, sorted by fuel
1
Propane furnace

Won't light after the tank was refilled, or lights and drops out. We check the igniter, flame sensor, propane gas valve and pressure, and the venting.

2
Natural gas furnace

Clicks and tries to start, or the blower pushes cold air. We check the inducer motor, pressure switch, flame sensor, igniter and control board.

3
Electric furnace on Chelan PUD power

Air comes out lukewarm, or a breaker keeps tripping. We check the heating elements, sequencers, limit switches, breakers and wiring.

4
A furnace backing up a heat pump

The furnace takes over on the coldest nights, so we test both pieces together. Heat pumps in Leavenworth →

Cabins, second homes and rentals

When the furnace stops at a house nobody is staying in.

Lots of furnaces around Plain and Lake Wenatchee heat places that sit empty between weekends. A breakdown there can turn into frozen plumbing before anyone finds out.

Your yes, by phone

The job
A heat pump change-out with a new indoor air handler
What went in
A Bosch heat pump, a matched Bosch air handler with 15 kW of electric backup heat, new breakers and a Bosch thermostat

In many Leavenworth homes without natural gas, the air handler and its electric heat strips do the work of a furnace. This one-day change-out gave the home a new Bosch air handler with backup heat for the coldest nights, and we filed the Chelan PUD incentive paperwork. The photo at the top of this page is from that job.

How a visit goes

From your call to a warm house again.

  1. Book or call

Tell us the fuel, what the furnace is doing, and who will be at the house.

  2. Up Highway 2

A technician drives up from our shop at 1306 Walnut St in Wenatchee, about 20 miles away.

  3. Cause, then cost

We test until we find the actual fault, then quote the repair. Nothing gets fixed until you approve it.

  4. A full heat cycle

After the repair we watch the furnace run start to finish before packing up.

Potential utility incentives

If fixing it stops making sense.

A furnace around 15 years old or more that breaks down most winters, or a repair quote getting close to the price of new equipment, is worth comparing with a replacement. Our technician can lay out both.

Leavenworth furnace questions

What upper valley homeowners ask us.

Do you repair furnaces in Leavenworth?

Yes. We repair propane, natural gas and electric furnaces, and furnaces that back up a heat pump, in Leavenworth, Peshastin, Dryden, Plain, Lake Wenatchee and the towns around them. Book at alpineaire.net/book or call (509) 436-1178.

How much is a furnace repair visit in Leavenworth?

Dispatch is $149 in Leavenworth, Peshastin and Dryden, and $189 in Plain, Icicle, Lake Wenatchee, Coles Corner, Winton and Chiwawa. A diagnostic fee of $72 to $130 is added, depending on how long the fault takes to find. The repair and parts are quoted before any work starts, and neither fee is credited toward the repair.

Can I get after-hours furnace help up here?

Yes. Our after-hours emergency service covers Leavenworth and the upper valley. Call (509) 436-1178. After 5 pm, on weekends and on holidays, dispatch is $330 plus the diagnostic fee.

Why did my furnace shut off after a snowstorm?

On a high-efficiency furnace, snow or ice over the white plastic pipes outside blocks its air and exhaust, and a safety switch stops the burner. Clear the pipes by hand, then turn the thermostat down and back up. If the heat doesn't return, book a repair.

The furnace at my cabin quit while I was away. What should I do?

If someone can get there, have them look for frozen or leaking pipes and shut the water off at the main if they find any. Then call us. A caretaker can let our technician in, and we'll phone you with the price before repairing anything.

Will Chelan PUD help pay if my furnace can't be fixed?

Possibly. Replacing an electric furnace with a ducted heat pump for the first time carries a potential $3,300 Chelan PUD incentive for Chelan County customers, with Chelan PUD's approval before the install. Replacing a propane or gas furnace with another furnace isn't a conversion, so that amount doesn't apply.
