Heat Pump Installation in Leavenworth, WA

Snowier winters, a lot of electric heat and plenty of part-time homes. Leavenworth asks more of a heat pump than the valley floor does, and Chelan PUD can pay part of the switch when you're leaving an electric furnace or baseboards behind.

Leaving baseboards or wall heaters?

Baseboard or wall heat to a ductless mini-split, site-built house $1,600
Same switch in a manufactured home $2,000
Buildings with five or more units $1,000

Homes that already run a heat pump don't qualify for these conversion amounts. New equipment has to rate at least 7.5 HSPF2 and 14.3 SEER2.

Income-qualified households may be eligible for up to $4,300 on a ducted conversion once Chelan PUD's enhanced program opens.

Pre-approval comes before the install date.

Chelan PUD only accepts the request from the contractor, so we file it as soon as you pick a system and schedule the work after it's approved. Program rules are on Chelan PUD's heat pump rebate page(checked October 20, 2026).

Rebates are provided and approved only by Chelan PUD. Amounts and eligibility are subject to change. Ask us about standard heat pump rebates.

Leavenworth winters are a different job.

Town sits higher than Wenatchee and catches more snow, and average January lows sit near 20°F. A heat pump chosen for summer cooling alone will struggle here. One chosen for heating first won't.

  • Cold-climate equipment. We pick models that hold their heating output when it's well below freezing.
  • Backup for the deep cold. Electric auxiliary heat, or a furnace in dual-fuel homes, covers the handful of nights a heat pump can't carry alone.
  • Above the snow line. The outdoor unit sits on a raised stand or wall bracket, away from roof edges that dump snow and ice.
  • A clear drain path. Defrost water needs somewhere to go that won't freeze into a sheet on a walkway.

Three common starting points

Which heat pump fits your Leavenworth place?

Around Leavenworth we see full-time family homes, older houses in town and cabins that sit empty for weeks. Each points to a different system.

A year-round home on an electric furnace

Ducts are already there, so a ducted heat pump with a new air handler takes the furnace's place and brings air conditioning with it.

Usually lines up with the $3,300 Chelan PUD conversion.

More on ducted heat pumps →

A cabin or second home on baseboards

No ducts to work with. One outdoor unit can feed several indoor heads, and you can set temperatures remotely between visits so pipes stay safe.

Usually lines up with the $1,600 ductless incentive.

More on ductless systems →

A house that heats with gas or propane

Keep a sound furnace for the coldest nights and let a heat pump handle the rest of the season.

Usually no Chelan PUD conversion money, since the house isn't leaving electric heat.

New Carrier heat pump on a raised stand, installed by Alpine Aire at a home in Leavenworth, WA

Replacing a heat pump system in Leavenworth

Finished
September 2026
What changed
The home's existing heat pump system came out
What went in
A new Carrier heat pump, a matched indoor air handler, a 10 kW electric backup heat kit and a smart thermostat

A Leavenworth homeowner was ready to replace their existing heat pump system. Two of our installers handled the whole change-out in one day: the new outdoor unit sits on a raised stand above a concrete pad, clear of winter snow, and electric backup heat in the air handler covers the coldest nights. The photo at the top of this page is from that job.

Installed prices

These ranges run from our smallest Good system to our largest Best system. The right-hand column only subtracts an incentive where Chelan PUD actually offers one.

Heat pump + gas furnace (dual fuel) $15,706–$26,748 Usually none $15,706–$26,748
Ductless mini-split
replacing baseboard heat, 1 to 4+ zones
$7,000–$21,500 $1,600 $5,400–$19,900

How to read this: Prices are October 2026, before tax, and a vertical air handler runs $500 less than a horizontal one. Snow stands, longer line sets and panel upgrades add to the figure, which is why the online quote asks about your home before it prices it.

Own a cabin or rental near town?

What to sort out before a part-time home gets a heat pump.

  • Who lets the crew in. We can work with a caretaker or property manager if you can't be there on install day.
  • Remote temperature control. A connected thermostat or app lets you warm the place before you drive up.
  • A freeze-safe setback. Hold the house warm enough to protect plumbing while it sits empty.
  • Snow clearance in your absence. Plan who keeps the outdoor unit clear after a big storm.
  • Your Chelan PUD account details. The rebate request uses the account the house is billed under.
  • Rebate eligibility for a second home. We confirm this with Chelan PUD during pre-approval.

Leavenworth questions

Before you switch to a heat pump in Leavenworth.

Does the Chelan PUD rebate cover homes in Leavenworth?

Yes. Leavenworth is Chelan PUD territory. Moving from an electric resistance furnace to a ducted heat pump for the first time carries a potential $3,300 incentive, and moving from baseboards to ductless in a site-built house carries $1,600. Chelan PUD approves the project before work starts, and we send that request for you.

Can a heat pump keep up with a Leavenworth winter?

A cold-climate model sized for your heating load can, with backup heat planned for the coldest nights. Because town runs colder and snowier than Wenatchee, we size the system for heat first.

Where should the outdoor unit go when the snow piles up?

Up on a raised stand or wall bracket, out from under eaves that shed snow and ice, with room for defrost water to drain where it won't freeze on a path.

What does a heat pump cost in Leavenworth?

A ducted heat pump with a new air handler runs $15,331 to $26,702 installed, before incentives. If it replaces an electric furnace and qualifies for the $3,300 Chelan PUD conversion, that range becomes $12,031 to $23,402. Dual fuel runs $15,706 to $26,748.

Does a heat pump make sense for a cabin I only use part of the year?

Often, yes. A ductless system with remote control can keep the place above freezing while it's empty and warm it up before you arrive. We check rebate eligibility for second homes with Chelan PUD during pre-approval.

Will you come back up to Leavenworth for maintenance?

Yes. Our Wenatchee shop is about 20 miles down Highway 2, and we maintain and repair the heat pumps we put in. Book online or call (509) 436-1178.
