Two neighboring towns

Local conditions that shape your system.

Ephrata and Soap Lake share the same dry Basin weather: long, hot summers and cold, breezy winters. The houses and how people use them differ a little.

Ephrata

  • The county seat, with established neighborhoods of older single-story homes
  • Plenty of houses pair a furnace with a central air conditioner added later
  • Cooling load is high: a tired condenser shows it in July first
  • Farm and acreage homes outside town often need a shop or outbuilding heated too

Soap Lake

  • A smaller lake town where some houses are only used part of the year
  • Manufactured homes and older cottages, some heated with baseboards or wall heaters
  • Ductless heads suit rooms the original heat never handled well
  • Outdoor units near the water and in open lots take a lot of wind and dust

Wind is the local wrinkle in both towns. We set outdoor units where they get airflow but some shelter from blowing dust and drifting snow, and we check that the house isn't losing heat through old ducts before sizing anything.

Grant PUD

Utility incentives in this area.

Grant PUD changed its heat pump rule on January 1, 2026

Grant PUD supplies power in Ephrata. Since January 1, 2026, its heat pump rebates are only for homes converting from a different heating system. Replacing an old heat pump with a new one doesn't qualify. We don't quote an amount, because Grant PUD sets it and can change it.

In Soap Lake, check that your electric bill comes from Grant PUD before counting on any of this. An air conditioner on its own gets no utility rebate.

Questions to ask Grant PUD before you buy

  • Does the way my home is heated now count as a conversion?
  • What efficiency ratings must the new heat pump meet?
  • Do I need approval before the installation starts?
  • What paperwork do you need from me and from the installer?

We'll give you the equipment details and efficiency ratings from your quote so you can check them against Grant PUD's list. The prices on this page have no rebate taken off.

Know the cost up front

What service costs in Ephrata and Soap Lake.

Both towns are outside Chelan County, so they fall in our fourth dispatch level. A repair bill is dispatch plus diagnostic plus the repair you approve.

Dispatch, weekdays

$279

Monday to Friday, during office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Diagnostic

$72–$130

Set by the time it takes: up to 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour.

After hours

$330

Evenings after 5, weekends and holidays, with the diagnostic added.

The fees aren't credited toward the repair. AA Comfort Club members ($300 per system a year, or $25 a month) pay half the dispatch fee and get 15% off parts and labor, not including refrigerant gases or filters.

Replacing a system Installed price Typical Basin fit
Ducted heat pump + air handler $15,331–$26,702 A ducted house that wants one system for heat and summer cooling
Dual fuel (heat pump + gas furnace) $15,706–$26,748 Gas carries the coldest nights; the heat pump does the rest
Single-zone ductless $7,000–$8,700 A shop, bonus room or the hottest bedroom
Multi-zone ductless $11,000–$21,500 A manufactured home or cottage without ducts
Furnace, or furnace + central AC Free in-home estimate Fuel, venting and duct condition set the price

Check heat pump prices any time on our instant price page. We install Carrier, Lennox, Bosch, Mitsubishi and other leading brands, and we're a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. New equipment carries the manufacturer's parts warranty (up to 10 years on Carrier) plus our own 1-year parts and labor warranty.

Ephrata and Soap Lake questions

FAQ: HVAC in Ephrata & Soap Lake

What does a repair visit to Ephrata cost?

Dispatch is $279 on weekdays, plus a $72, $100 or $130 diagnostic based on time. You get the repair price before any work, and the two fees aren't credited toward it. Soap Lake is priced the same way.

Will Grant PUD give me a rebate for a new heat pump?

Only if you're converting from a different heating system. Since January 1, 2026, Grant PUD heat pump rebates don't cover replacing an existing heat pump. Grant PUD sets the amount, so check with it before you buy.

Is a heat pump worth it with summers this hot?

For many Basin homes, yes, because the same outdoor unit does the cooling in July and the heating in January. We'll size it for both at a free estimate and show you the installed price range first.

Can a manufactured home in Soap Lake get a ductless system?

Yes. Ductless heads mount on the wall and connect to an outdoor unit through a small opening, so no ductwork is needed. Single-zone systems run $7,000 to $8,700 installed, and multi-zone systems run $11,000 to $21,500.

Do you take emergency calls in Ephrata at night?

Yes. After-hours emergency service covers Ephrata and Soap Lake. After-hours dispatch is $330 plus the diagnostic, after 5 p.m. and on weekends and holidays.

Are estimates free in Ephrata?

Yes. Estimates for a new heat pump, furnace, ductless or AC system are free. Repair visits in Ephrata have a $279 dispatch fee, and our technician quotes the repair price before any work starts.
